Brandi Glanville Empties Retirement Savings Due to 'Hundreds of Thousands' in Medical Debt

Brandi Glanville found herself in dire need of a fresh start, both personally and financially, as medical challenges mounted.

"I had the leisure of saying no in the past, but then I had all these medical bills and whatnot," she disclosed. "So I had to say yes. And it was kind of like at a time where I needed to prove to myself that I could do it again."

For Glanville, the economic repercussions of her health struggles have been as formidable as the physical toll.

Financial Strain From Extensive Medical Bills

"The medical system here is broken," Glanville asserted. "So I have, like, from 8 a.m. on, I have creditors from, like, medical things calling me, like from Cedars-Sinai. It's out of control. Like I spent hundreds of thousands of dollars that I had saved. I emptied my 401(k). And it's all for medical bills. And I had insurance, and they told me nothing was wrong. I'm so angry. You know, going into my mid-fifties I had a cushion and that's gone. So it's very scary right now."

After enduring years of suffering, Glanville disclosed in September a diagnosis of several severe conditions: highly resistant ESBL Klebsiella and Enterobacter with biofilm, coccidioidomycosis (commonly known as Valley fever), Demodex dermatitis, and mononucleosis.

Glanville previously stated that her daily intravenous treatment was anticipated to incur costs ranging from $3,300 to $6,000 each month.

On-Set Injury During Reality Competition

Despite the immense physical and financial challenges she already faced, Glanville was determined to push her limits on the program "Special Forces: World's Toughest Test." One particular challenge tested those boundaries more intensely than she had anticipated.

During the show's filming, Glanville recounted how contestants were instructed on the proper technique for falling from a helicopter into water. However, moments before her jump, an instructor provided a last-minute directive to keep her head up—a sudden instruction she says left her minimal time to react.

"My head hit the water. It was like a Mack truck – it, like, ran over my head. I thought that was it," she recounted. "And then a few seconds later, my body hits the water so hard. It was paralyzing almost. I was like, 'Oh my God.' But it was in slow motion."

The former star of "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" reported sustaining a perforated eardrum, a concussion, a bruised sternum, and a cracked rib. These injuries necessitated her traveling by boat to the hospital, as medical professionals advised against her flying. Glanville recalled battling an intense headache in addition to the excruciating pain from her rib injury, which made breathing and coughing extremely difficult.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Glanville said doctors cautioned her against flying, indicating she might be stranded for at least two weeks and potentially require surgery. Yet, after several days of recovery and a follow-up evaluation at the hospital, the reality star was resolute in her decision to depart—even though doctors remained unenthusiastic about her boarding a plane.

Bruised but resolute, Glanville ultimately regarded the entire experience as a personal triumph. The program, titled "Special Forces: World's Toughest Test," airs Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. ET.
