Airline Passenger's Unusual Scalp Scratching Routine Mid-Flight Draws Disgust from Fellow Travelers

A passenger traveling in business class on EVA Air reportedly caused dismay among fellow travelers after being observed using a drinking glass to scratch his scalp during a flight. The unusual event, which occurred on September 24 during a flight originating from Taiwan, was captured on video.

Onboard the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the individual appeared to address an itchy scalp by repeatedly rubbing the rim of a drinking glass against his head. This peculiar in-flight grooming activity was witnessed by a distressed passenger seated directly behind him.

For the observing passenger, witnessing the individual repeatedly draw the inverted cup's rim across his hair and scalp transformed the premium cabin experience into something drastically unexpected. The dismayed witness expressed strong disapproval, stating,

"This is disgusting. It's a cup, not a massage comb."

The passenger recording the scene reportedly lost all appetite for the upcoming meal, remarking,

"No one wants to eat your dandruff. I'm really going to vomit."

The EVA Air flight subsequently arrived safely at its destination. EVA Air, founded in 1989 and headquartered in Taiwan, is a prominent international airline.

Public Etiquette in Confined Spaces

An expert noted that observing someone scratching themselves, whether with an object or their fingers, in a public setting is generally "unappealing and somewhat alarming." This incident underscores a broader trend of passengers expressing discomfort with others' conduct in shared travel environments.

Over recent years, numerous air travelers have voiced concerns regarding fellow passengers overstepping boundaries with their public conduct during flights.

Other Noteworthy Incidents

An incident from March 2026 involved a passenger drawing criticism for resting their feet on an aircraft window. A social media user on Reddit strongly condemned the behavior, recounting their experience:

"First time experiencing the feet in my face in five years. Travel monthly. In first class, and this lady put her feet on my arm rest. I shoved them off."

The post continued, detailing that "five minutes later, she has them up on her window. At least she has socks on. But come on, people! It’s a 4.5 hour flight."

The etiquette expert emphasized the distinction between private and public behavior:

"When you’re in your home, you are in a private space. [But] when you are out in public, there are different standards because you are around other people and must be aware of your surroundings and the comfort level of others."
