David Foster Addresses Viral Video, Denies Snubbing Meghan Markle at Charity Event

Renowned music producer David Foster has publicly addressed a viral video clip from a recent charity event that sparked widespread speculation about an alleged snub of Meghan Markle.

The incident occurred on August 7 during the David Foster and Friends foundation event, which saw the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry among the notable attendees.

The social media video depicted Foster walking past Ms. Markle, who appeared to acknowledge him, and Prince Harry. Moments later, Foster returned with his wife, Katharine McPhee, to pose for photographs with the royal couple.

Music Producer Addresses Red Carpet Speculation

In a statement, Foster clarified the circumstances surrounding the brief red carpet interaction. He explained that as the host of the event, he had already welcomed the Duke and Duchess approximately ten minutes prior to their appearance on the red carpet.

"As the host of the David Foster and Friends foundation event, I had already greeted our friends, the Duke and Duchess, at the entrance 10 minutes before the red carpet encounter," Foster stated. "They both, graciously and selflessly, gave their time and went beyond to engage with everyone. Harry and Meghan are dear friends of mine. Anyone watching can see there was no awkward moment and certainly no snub."

He further criticized the portrayal of the event, asserting that certain media outlets chose to misrepresent the red carpet moment for sensationalism.

"It’s sad that certain media chose to deceive a red carpet encounter for clickbait. They turned simple ‘positioning’ to get the best photo into a hurtful lie," he added.

A Deep-Rooted Friendship

The bond between Foster and Ms. Markle has strengthened over several years, largely facilitated by Foster’s wife, Katharine McPhee. Ms. McPhee and Ms. Markle share a history, having participated in musical theater together during their younger years.

Their connection was rekindled later in life, leading to Foster and McPhee developing a close friendship with Ms. Markle and Prince Harry as a couple.

Support During a Significant Transition

Foster also played a crucial supportive role during a pivotal period for Ms. Markle and Prince Harry. In late 2019, he assisted the couple in securing a private residence on Vancouver Island. This provided them with a secluded space during their preparations to step back from their duties as senior members of the royal family in 2020.

Reflecting on that time, Foster previously commented that he was pleased the couple could maintain a low profile for an extended period while residing at the property.

"I felt honored that I was able to help Meghan there because I’m a Canadian, and we’re a Commonwealth country; we’re the Crown’s. It’s important to us, so I grew up with that kind of sentiment. I was really happy to be able to help them to find a respite just to take a little time off," he was quoted as saying to a publication at the time.
