Congressman Seeks FCC Review Over Major Networks' Handling of Presidential Address

Representative Buddy Carter, a Republican from Georgia, has formally requested that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) examine the broadcasting choices made by ABC, NBC, and CBS. This request stems from the networks' handling of President Donald Trump's primetime address on July 16, which they either chose not to air live or interrupted before its conclusion.

Concerns Over Public Airwaves and Information Access

In his letter, Representative Carter articulated "serious concerns" regarding the networks' conduct. He emphasized that the public airwaves should serve to inform the American populace, rather than being utilized by corporate executives to dictate which matters of national significance citizens are permitted to hear.

Broadcasters may criticize, analyze, or fact-check the President's statements. However, refusing to air a major presidential address because executives disagree with its content raises serious concerns that they intended to keep Americans in the dark about potential foreign interference in our elections.

Carter further contended that the American public deserved the opportunity to form their own conclusions. "Regardless of political affiliation, the American people deserved to hear this information directly from their President and judge it for themselves," he wrote. He highlighted that ABC and NBC opted not to broadcast the speech on their primary television networks, while CBS ceased its coverage before the President finished speaking.

The congressman also pointed out that airing the address exclusively on streaming platforms did not constitute an "adequate substitute for free, over-the-air television," particularly for individuals in the United States who lack dependable broadband internet access.

Network Decisions and Presidential Critique

Carter's letter to the FCC follows President Trump's remarks during the Thursday night address, where the President himself called for the broadcast licenses of ABC and NBC to be revoked. He accused these networks of participating in a "plot" designed to "continue this fraud" and "protect the radical left."

In a rare move, NBC and ABC fake news have both said that they would not cover this speech. They knew what it was about because they don't like the topic, because they know how corrupt our system is and they don't want to reveal it.

During the event, ABC News and NBC News provided a live stream of President Trump's speech on their digital platforms. Subsequently, they broadcast special reports on their main networks that summarized his remarks.

CBS News initially aired analytical commentary before joining President Trump's speech several minutes after it commenced. The network later cut away from the live feed after the President began to criticize ABC and NBC.

Address Focuses on Election Integrity and National Security

The more than 20-minute address by President Trump centered on his announcement of the "immediate declassification and release of critical intelligence" documents. He asserted these documents revealed "shocking vulnerabilities in our election infrastructure."
