A civilian was taken into custody at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida on Saturday after reportedly engaging violently with security personnel, according to information released by the 6th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs Office.
Incident Details and Aftermath
The incident unfolded around 1 p.m. on Saturday when the civilian reportedly breached the perimeter of the Tampa-based installation. A subsequent confrontation with security led to non-life-threatening injuries for both an officer and the civilian involved in the altercation.
Approximately an hour and a half later, at 2:30 p.m., the base communicated via Facebook that its Dale Mabry Gate had been closed to all incoming and outgoing traffic until further notice. The public was advised to adjust their travel plans accordingly and avoid the area surrounding the Dale Mabry Gate.
Authorities confirmed that an investigation into the matter is currently underway. Base officials have not yet disclosed the specific circumstances or motives that precipitated the confrontation.
