Michigan Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed Wants Bill Maher to Get 'A-- Whooped' on His Show

Abdul El-Sayed, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in Michigan, recently conveyed to former NBC News host Chuck Todd his interest in appearing on comedian Bill Maher's program. El-Sayed stated his intention would be to observe Maher "get his a-- whooped" in response to comments El-Sayed deemed anti-Islam.

Speaking on the "Noosphere" program, El-Sayed articulated his readiness to participate in discussions on shows hosted by figures such as Maher or Joe Rogan. He acknowledged these platforms often promote views he considers "terrible" but expressed a desire to directly engage with their audiences.

Furthermore, El-Sayed explicitly mentioned his willingness to appear on Maher's "Real Time" program with the specific aim of watching the host "get his a-- whooped" by an individual of Muslim faith.

El-Sayed voiced strong criticism of Maher's past statements.

"You know how many terrible things Bill Maher has said about people like me? Terrible, awful things. Of course, he's still got his show on Comedy Central, and everybody seems to be perfectly okay going on that show despite the fact that he said deeply terrible things."

He then detailed his two primary motivations for potentially accepting an invitation.

"But you know who else would go on that show? I would go on that show. You know why? A: I wanna give people the image of watching him get his a-- whooped on his own show by a guy who prays like I do. And I'd also go on the show because I want to convince the people who watch his show, right, that a lot of the things that he says, just not viable."

Maher's Response and Invitation

During his program on Friday, Maher addressed El-Sayed's remarks directly and extended an official invitation for the Michigan Democrat to appear on "Real Time."

Maher clarified the nature of his commentary:

"It’s not people like you, I would love to have you on, sir, by the way. And I hope we can make that happen. I talk about Islam. It’s never personal, and it’s never about race. It’s about ideas. Religion is an opinion. That’s all religion is: a group of thoughts that form an opinion of something. I have different views on what, you know, how women should be treated and things like that, that we will discuss. I hope you will accept our invitation."

El-Sayed's History of Confrontational Rhetoric

El-Sayed has previously engaged in confrontational rhetoric, notably directed at his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers. Last month, despite being over two decades younger than Rogers, El-Sayed challenged him to a game of tackle football.

The Democratic candidate posted on X, stating:

"Since you’re too afraid to debate me, how about you ‘hold me accountable’ on a football field instead. Tackle, no pads like we used to play when we were kids. I’d be happy to show you [how] much I love football."

Rogers dismissed the challenge, remarking:

"I think that is so unserious. You think about what the problems are here. People are facing this affordability [sic] credit. He wants to thump his chest and show how macho he is, and he spends a lot of time talking about high school. This is not about high school."
